Presidential Innovation Grants
Presidential Innovation Grant Fund
Spring 2019 Special Call: Initiatives in Artificial Intelligence,
Machine Learning, Data Science, and Societal Impact
As part of the BOW Three College Collaboration, the college presidents have established the Presidential Innovation Project Fund, which is available to the Babson, Olin, and Wellesley communities for projects that will enhance the BOW Three College Collaboration and the student educational experience.
The Presidential Innovation Grants offer an opportunity for members of the BOW Three College Collaboration to submit project proposals related to the enhancement of the collaboration.
Following the enthusiastic response to the BOW October 2018 meeting on these issues held in the Weissman Foundry, in Spring 2019 the BOW Three College Collaboration seeks creative proposals to build connections between the colleges at the intersection of the areas of Artificial Intelligence, Machine Learning, Data Science, and their Societal Implications. We seek collaborative proposals for initiatives that would provide foundational program-level initiatives that enhance the student and faculty experience. We encourage applicants to consider innovative and non-standard approaches to enhance the student learning experience utilizing the pedagogical resources available at the three Colleges. Proposals that promote lasting three College engagement and connections in these areas are favored.
Part I: Initial Expressions of Interest Due February 1: If you are interested in connecting with other interested faculty members to explore developing initiatives, please complete this by February 1. We are currently working to arrange a meeting in early February for those who have expressed interest in order to share ideas and to support the formation of proposal teams.
Part II. Full proposals are due March 1.
Successful proposals will have the following characteristics:
- Addressing one or more of the special call topic areas;
- Participation from all three colleges;
- Participant roles that are clearly articulated;
- An appropriately detailed budget of expenses with justification;
- Sustained academic impact on the BOW Three College Collaboration.
Funding: If the scope of proposals is substantial and lasting, proposals greater than $15K will be considered. Budget items may include, but are not limited to: faculty summer support, student support, technology support, exploration of successful models elsewhere, support for interaction with practitioners and industry leaders. Final decisions about funding are made by the BOW Provosts.
